Job first
When the day job gets busy
Every job has busy seasons. Planning for them ahead stops side work from becoming a problem when they arrive.
Know your busy seasons
Year-end, product launches, holiday periods: mark them in your calendar months ahead.
Lighten the side load early
Before a busy season, avoid taking on new side jobs with deadlines inside it. Finish or pause what you can.
Tell clients in advance
A short message saying replies may be slower for a few weeks is usually well received. Surprise silence isn't.
Keep the rest day
Busy seasons are when rest matters most. If something has to give, let it be the side work, not your sleep.
